Recently my mom and I went to something called One Million Bones where people make clay bones in memory of past and ongoing genocide around the world. While we were there, a lady asked me about running the country. She said she is a member of a local organization that would like to sponsor me on my run. I am amazed that people are already starting to recognize me.
Personally, I think you’re crazy and I’m glad you are. By pushing yourself far beyond what most of us would consider the limits of human endurance, you’ve expanded the limits I place on myself.
That’s a good thing. I plan on running the country with my son, David, next year. We’re not going to set any speed records, but if things work out, David will become the youngest person to run across the USA and we will become the first father and son team to complete this particular transcon run.
Your book, Running On Empty, taught me a lot about crossing the country on foot. Thank you for completing the run (and so many other epic runs) and thank you for sharing your experience.
May you continue to run crazy distances, live large, and inspire many, many people long into the future.
Thanks again!
