Safe and Healthy Food Supply
The world’s food supply is under siege. Powerful multi-national corporations such as Monsanto have laid claim to food—from the DNA within the world’s seeds, to the plants those seeds become, to the products produced from those plants. And now through biotechnology, corporations routinely release genetically modified organisms and their partner poisons into the environment. Once released, these organisms and poisons contaminate and pollute natural plants, animals, soil, air, and water. Biotech corporations create GMOs, but they can’t control them. Neither can they control the extent of the damage that has and will result as these organisms and poisons continue to pollute the world and sicken natural species, including you and your children.
These corporations control governments, and bribe, threaten, sue, and silence their opposition. Above all else, they lie.
Monsanto and their bullying buddies defeated California’s Proposition 37 in November 2012, a proposition that would have labeled GMOs. They did it by immersing the airwaves and media in slimy and illegal lies backed by millions of dollars. They repeated the same lies in 2013 to defeat Washington state’s labeling initiative, I-522.
As a result, GMOs remain unlabeled in California, Washington and the United States. However, things are changing. According to the Center for Food Safety, “In 2013, nearly half of all U.S. states have introduced bills requiring labeling or prohibiting genetically engineered foods.” And Connecticut and Maine have passed labeling laws that will become active when enough other states pass similar legislation. We have a right to know who’s profiting from our food choices. Beyond that, we have a moral obligation to boycott lying corporate tyrants.
When enough people realize that Monsanto and gang lie, we will inoculate ourselves against the power of their lies and the poison in their products.

In response to your article in last week’s Sitka paper:
Monsanto employ’s thousands of people, which helps them eat- a good thing. You seem to be concerned about what is “best for the worlds food security” in your site above. Consider this- without the chemicals made by Monsanto and used to produce the safest food supply in the world (here in the USA), thousands of people would die from various diseases that infect agricultural crops and are toxic when ingested and very hard to detect fully (I urge you to research this). Also consider- without herbicides and pesicides we would not be able to feed everyone that is alive today. It would be impossible to find enough labor to run a hoe to weed enough crops to feed us all, and then there would not be enough left to eat because the bugs got it. There are simply too many people on the Earth for this to be practical. (Would you care if alot of people died because we could not produce enough food?? Would you care if it was your family that starved??) As a redneck from an agricultural background, I seriously wonder if you have any background in it or have researched this from the statements you make. Unfortunately, I hate to say, and honestly do not understand, you fall into the same mold of most greenies and liberals that repeat half truth and lies enough that they think it is true. A large part of the information on your site here is subjective, unprovable, and downright not true. You want to blame “these companies” for “virtually every major disease and death”!!! First, how can you prove that- we are living longer than people have in modern history. (Remember- we would starve to death without this companies chemicals) Second- people kill themselves by the choices they make. Please see the bigger picture: all we really know for sure is that sin is 100% lethal, so we will all die because of it. There is only one cure. Jesus said if you come to him and cofess, he WILL save us. Apart from that, as the Bible clearly states: we will be separated from God where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth forever (Hell).
Now, please do not get me wrong- I do not mean to beat you up over this. I simply hope to illustrate the truth for you. I hope you can see, and research and grow and learn. The truth is the still the truth whether you see it and accept it or not. I pray for your family that you do. If you have not already, I am praying that you will accept Jesus Christ, for apart from him, there is no life. In the realm of eternity, it makes little difference whether you live 10 years or 110 years, we still die and will spend it according to the decision we made about Christ.
One more thing to add: You say you plan on visiting farmers on your run, I understand them with my background. Very possible you may get a good country Butt-Whuppin’ by trying to talk to a farmer about this. Be careful!!
I have no stock whatsoever in Monsanto, I am not supporting them- I am supporting the truth.
This is my way of exposing the truth to you as plain as possible.

We disagree, of course, on matters related to the use of chemicals on our food and agribusiness, but we share the common goal of caring for others.

Perhaps Sam can watch some documentaries on permaculture vs monoculture and the new documentary kiss the ground.
Oh also, just a personal tidbit, my uncle died a horrible death from brain cancer. His son too had brain cancer. As well as his father, brother, (my dad) sister with debilitating autoimmune disease, etc. they worked on a potato farm and dairy farm. And then my uncle grew up and went to work for Monsanto as an analyst. The cognitive dissonance of why they have health issues is astounding. Roundup was the norm on the farms. Still is. Mono crops are not helping grow good produce. It rots faster due to soils losing micronutrients from too much chemicals.
I just listened to your podcast with Rich Roll. Very inspiring, on many levels. Kudos to young David on such a BIG dream and to Dad and family for helping make the dream happen. We look forward to tracking along with you as you move east. Will you be posting your route so those of us along Route 66 might connect with you along the way? What if a local group wanted to connect with you, maybe run along with you for a stretch, set up a meal or two? Thanks for your mission against GMO’s AND for your example of dreaming big.
