Yippee!!
Our crowdfunding campaign, Running For a GMO Free USA, is live and getting lots of love from lots of good people.
Needless to say, we’re excited about our transcontinental run scheduled to start on January 18th, 2014, from Huntington Beach, California. We’ve been talking, planning, preparing and, of course, running, for more than a year.
A lot has happened in that year. Through his love of running coupled with a lot of hard work, David transformed himself into the 3A regional cross-country champion in Southeast Alaska. Through my love for good food, the environment and a lot of hard work, I wrote and published the book, We’re Monsanto: Feeding the World, Lie After Lie. (To date, more than 3,000 people have downloaded We’re Monsanto.) And together, the vision of our run and mission has become more clear.
We are more than just a father and son running duo with an amazing family support team. We are more than just a family that cares about good health and healthy food systems. Every time we talk to people about our run and mission, we see the excitement in their eyes and we hear it in their voices. We are doing what every family longs to do: we’re living our lives to the fullest, running in pursuit of big dreams, and working to preserve our common heritage found in the Earth’s abundance for our children and future generations.
Because we share the same mission with virtually all people around the world, our run is everyone’s run, and our mission is everyone’s mission.
As we’ve opened ourselves to the yet untapped potential of this run, positive and passionate people have stepped forward and contributed in unique and valuable ways, some with skills, some with time, and many with donations.
We’ve been amazed at the love we’ve experienced. As one local health-conscious business owner handed me a generous donation, she said, “Brett, if you need anything at all while you’re on the road, I’m the first person you call!”
And I am honored and grateful to count Owen and Beth Kindig as good friends, mentors, cheerleaders and supporters. When you watch the Running For a GMO-Free USA campaign videos, you’re watching the fruit of Owen’s labors.
We are confident that many other people–such as yourself–will recognize the value in our run and mission. We are confident that you’ll check out our Running For a GMO Free USA campaign, and that you’ll feel inspired to support our run and our mission.
We, in turn, promise to support you in our mutual support for sustainable and healthy agriculture, the Earth and her inhabitants.

David, What an inspiring vision! You’ve motivated me to get up tomorrow long before the dawn to take my hounds for a spin. Can’t wait to meet you in person and follow the journey! ~ Isaac
Thanks! I like running with my dog too.
What an awesome, AWESOME young man you are! What an amazing and supportive family. I’m cheering you on…make it to Virginia and I’ll be proud to run by your side!
Hey, it is nice to hear how exited you are about this. We haven’t chosen our route yet, but we know it will go through D.C. I really hope we can run together.
My son Riley (almost 12) and I might be interested in having you speak and or joining the run for a bit if your route brings you to Colorado! Please save my email and keep us posted!
Would love to run with you and Riley! Gonna be a lot of fun running with hundreds??? maybe thousands??? of people!!!
By the time you start on your run, I am thinking / hoping you will have millions that join you as you run by their towns. God Bless you and good luck.
Thank you, Kim! I think and hope the same thing. Organic blessings to you!
Good luck! I plan to donate to your cause and maybe join you two on part of your run, once I know the path you are taking. I think what you two are doing and how you hve gone about with preparation is awesome! David…I hope you and your sister make time for home-schooling while on this most excellent journey.
😉
Thank you, Caroline! Running with you will be a beautiful experience! We have not finalized our route. Probably start in the L.A. area, Vegas, St. George, St. Louis (of course), D.C (of course), and beyond! Should prove to be an epic home-schooling experience for all of us!
I really want to this something like this myself, maybe do it as a fundraiser for cancer. It has been my life dream. Good Luck to you and great job pursuing your dreams!
I am also 14 and this is something that i feel the need to do.
Thank you. We are so proud of you guys and support your movement.
Thank you, Sharon! We really appreciate your support!
Just checking in to see how you are going – I am thinking you are getting the motor home – does it have a name yet? and heading to So Calif. Hope all is well. Peace, Jeff Budd
Hi Jeff, We’re still checking out trucks and trailers. Got to buy today. Tomorrow at the latest. Going non-stop with a thousand details. The GMO Free community is rallying together, offering us tons of support. We’re feeling the love already and we’re sure that will only grow as we run from town to town! Peace to you as well! We look forward to seeing you on the road!
My name is Megan, I am a plant breeder. While pulling together like this is a great cause you should really do more research before you decide you are against GMOs. On both sides. Do you eat corn? all corn is GMO. Why, because farmers have to feed 7+ billion people on less land, less resources and less money. What you should be worried about it the laws that align with GMOs. NOT GMO. My job it to make sure GMOs are safe, because without them, many, many, many more people in the world will go hungry. I am very aware of what I put in my body, I refuse to fill it with toxins of any sort. if you would like more info contact me, I am willing to share. No matter your thought I can promise you one thing, GMOs are here to stay, so instead of fighting it, focus on laws that make sure only healthy and safe GMOs are allowed.
Thank you for reading, enjoy your run! That is an amazing adventure but remember food is a must.
Megan
Thanks for your comment, Megan. It seems the number one critique I get is that if I did more research I would see the GMO light. Perhaps so, but not the case for the scientists who started out their careers strongly pro-GMO but then became vocal opponents of GMOs after they learned more about them. My research suggests that the strongest correlation for pro-GMO scientists is the pro-GMO industry that funds their research. I am actively seeking interviews from people of all positions as we run across the country. Feel free to contact me if you’d like to be interviewed. You guys rock. We are so proud of you.
Dear Wilcox family, Hope you are on the move and wishing you well, still curious if you named your new home. Sitka – kind of balmy – even saw blue sky the other day. Wish you tail winds and smooth roads. Cheers, Jeff B
No name for the trailer yet. So busy. Hardly even a second to think of such things. Yes, weather is good here in Riverside. 3.5 inches of rain in the past year. Serious drought! Enjoy balmy Sitka! Take care of yourself. See you on the road!
Thank you so much for shedding light on this cause with such an inspiring journey! I look forward to following your journey and maybe seeing you on the road if you are coming through Kentucky! I know many people who would join you for many miles for this cause.
Thanks, Janna. No Kentucky on this trip. You can check out our route here: https://www.runningthecountry.com/running-for-a-gmo-free-usa-route/
Organic blessings to you!
Heard your interview with Rich Roll…best of luck!!!
Thanks, Aaron! Interviewing with Rich was a lot of fun!
